2009 IDPA Championships

378 shooters representing 11 countries attended the 13th annual IDPA National Championship held at the U.S. Shooting Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mother Nature co-operated nicely providing clear skies, light breezes, and daytime temperatures in the low 80’s for the majority of the competitors who shot the match on Friday 9/25 and Saturday 9/26. Those that shot on Thursday had overcast but generally dry conditions to contend with.

The US Shooting Academy, who hosted the event for the first time, is a premier shooting and training facilities dedicated to hand gun shooting. It is a beautiful facility whose ever present well trained staff did all that could be expected to insure a safe, smooth running competition. The consensus of the shooters was that the competition was exceptional. Most shooters described this year’s competition as a “front site” match with the stages testing the shooters technically while still being straight forward and non-confusing. Course designers, Jerry Biggs, Curt Nichols, Ollie Hugo and Match Staff get well deserved recognition for their efforts. Side matches in rifle, shotgun, as well as pistol sponsored by XS Sights, Wilson Combat, & Glock gave additional opportunities for the competitors to test their skills when not competing in the Main Event.

Again, next year, the US Shooting Academy in Tulsa be the host for the IDPA National Championship.
